Reader Jeremiah 14. 9.

Thou, O Lord, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name. Leave us not, O Lord our God.

Or Matthew 11. 28-30.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Or Hebrews 13. 20, 21.

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working In you that which is well-pleasing In his sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Here may follow this or some other Hymn.

Te lucis ante terminum.

Before the ending of the day,
Creator of the world, we pray
That with thy wonted favour thou
Wouldst be our guard and keeper now.

From all ill dreams defend our eyes,
From nightly fears and fantasies;
Tread under foot our ghostly foe,
That no pollution we may know.

O Father, that we ask be done,
Through Jesus Christ, thine only Son;
Who, with the Holy Spirit and thee,
Doth live and reign eternally. Amen.

Leader: Keep us as the apple of an eye;
Answer: Hide us under the shadow of thy wings.

Together: Guide us, O Lord, waking, and guard us sleeping, that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Nunc Dimittis

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace,

According to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles,

And to be the glory of thy people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

And to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Together: Guide us, O Lord, waking, and guard us sleeping, that awake we may walk with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Leader: Let us pray

Answer: Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal, have mercy on us. (3 times)

Leader: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

Answer: As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

Leader: Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse us of our sins; Master, forgive our              transgressions; Holy One, come to us and heal our infirmities for your name’s sake.

Leader: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

Then shall be said:

Leader:  Wilt thou not turn again and quicken us;
Answer:  That thy people may rejoice in thee?
Leader:  O Lord, show thy mercy upon us;
Answer:  And grant us thy salvation.
Leader:  Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this night without sin;
Answer:  O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us.
Leader:  O Lord, hear our prayer;
Answer:  And let our cry come unto thee.

Then shall follow the Collect for Protection, with which may be said the Collect of the day.

The Collect for Protection.
Visit, we beseech thee, O Lord, this place, and drive from it all the snares of the enemy; let thy holy angels dwell herein to preserve us in peace; and may thy blessing be upon us evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Or

Be present, O merciful God, and protect us through the silent hours of this night, so that we who are wearied by the changes and chances of this fleeting world, may repose upon thy eternal changelessness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
